- understand instructions that are not purely based on shape, colour, size or sound
- zoom in up to 200% without the text spilling off of the screen
We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.
This website is compatible with:
- Evergreen versions of Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, Safari and Firefox
- NVDA version 2019.2.1
AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.
How accessible this website is
We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:
- most older PDF documents are not fully accessible to screen reader software
- some areas of the site are difficult to navigate using just a keyboard
- you cannot skip to the main content when using a screen reader
- screen readers besides NVDA version 2019.2.1 may not perform well or give the best user experience

Technical information about this website’s accessibility
West Northamptonshire Council in partnership with Cambridgeshire County Council and Aquila Heywood Limited is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.
Compliance status
This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.
Non-accessible content
The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.
Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations
Some text does not have sufficient colour contrast so people with low vision or who are colour blind may struggle to read the content.
There are some instances where links in focus are not highlighted, which can affect people who need to use the tab key to cycle through the links on a page.
We’re working with ShawTrust to help us improve the accessibility of our website.
Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations
PDFs and other documents
The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services. For example, we do not plan to fix older versions of our annual report and statement of accounts.
Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.
Live video
We do not plan to add captions to live video streams because live video is exempt from meeting the accessibility regulations.
What we’re doing to improve accessibility
We’re working with ShawTrust to help us improve the accessibility of our website. They’ve produced a report which has highlighted some areas for us to focus on fixing. We plan to work with them to fix these issues.
